Minister Jerry Savelle once wrote: “Your dream will never come to pass until you get involved in helping someone else’s dream become a reality.”
So many people have sowed into my dream of being a published author: Critique partners, conference teachers, agents, editors, other authors. Mentors like Jerry B. Jenkins and DiAnn Mills.
As I write today, I know my dream is not finished. God has more for me to do, He’s given me more story ideas, stories to bring Him to readers and to bring readers closer to Him.
And he’s given me opportunities to sow into someone else’s dreams. He has brought me into contact with other writers through critique groups, conferences and workshops. On a few occasions, He’s said, “This one.”
Being the alert, in-tune Christian that I am, my response was something like, “This one what?”
I am so grateful for His infinite patience.
“Work with this one,” He has said.
He set up divine appointments for me with these writers and instructed me to work one-on-one with them, to be a critique partner for them, to sow into their dreams like others have sown into mine. I’ve formed special friendships with each of them. He’s given me insights into their work to encourage and instruct, to share what I’ve learned, to give ideas.
He’s given me the grace to share with them. He’s used me as His tool to help them grow as writers. Any benefit I’ve been to them is the result of His grace and anointing.
No matter what our calling, no matter where we serve, He gives these opportunities to meet someone and help them take the next step to their dream, to their place in His plan, wherever that may be.
It could be someone in our church home group, a neighbor, a co-worker, a fellow student. It could be to help them financially or with our time or to share what we know or to encourage them through struggles as they strive to bring their dream to reality.
Listen for that small voice inside. The one that says, “This one.” Sow as He instructs you and watch their dream manifest as your own comes to fruition.
