My guest on today’s blog is Kariss Walker from DiAnn Mills’ newest release, The Survivor. Grab a cup of coffee and get to know Kariss.
Hi readers! Thanks for taking the time to read my interview. Life is crazy right now, but I want to take a moment to answer these interview questions. Slip into a comfortable chair and grab a cup of coffee.
Leave a comment and I’ll enter your name into a drawing for a personalized copy of The Survivor.
- How did you get interested in writing suspense?
Kariss: From my news anchor days. Back then I encouraged viewers to help the FBI prevent and solve crimes by becoming aware of what was going on in their community. I urged them to report activities anonymously. Once I helped the FBI in a drug sting. Some of the stories wouldn’t let me go, and those are slowly finding their way into my books.
- You set your stories in Houston—why?
Kariss: Houston is my home, and I believe in writing what you know. I want my readers to know that Houston is a great city,
and what makes it wonderful is the diversity of people. Concerned citizens want to ensure their homes are safe. The criminals need to be off the streets and behind bars. Together we can do this. Those happenings are where my stories come from.
- Tea or coffee?
Kariss: Mocha latte please. Second choice is a strong cup laced with half and half. I’m picky about the beans, and they have to be ground just before I brew a pot. I know … I’m a coffee snob.
- What about your life do you like?
Kariss: I love the process of creating story. Entertaining readers and taking them on a wild journey is sooooo satisfying.
My condo is special to me, filled with unique touches of clean lines and bursts of color. My car too. I hope the latter doesn’t sound prideful, as my daddy would say, but I love my Jaguar.
- What about your life do you dislike?
Kariss: Writing is a lonely job—just me, my laptop, and God. I could easily crawl into a cave. Sometimes I need to simply be with people. Maybe I do need a dog … A husband would be nice if I could find the perfect man. Maybe I should send out a questionnaire on Facebook.
- You fall asleep and wake up in the middle ages. Somewhere in Europe. What is the first thing you’d do?
Kariss: Take a bath. None of that once a year stuff for me. I’d also stay away from rats. I’d like to live longer than the odds for contracting the bubonic plague. Maybe I’d disguise myself and be a knight.
- What is a fabulous meal for you?
Kariss: Anything I don’t have to cook. I received a culinary bypass at birth. My mom and my sisters are fabulous cooks. Just give me a can opener or freezer-to-microwave instructions. If I’m going out, I’d order sea bass, a rice pilaf, and asparagus. For dessert, I’d like a chocolate mousse with freshly brewed coffee.
8. In book one, The Chase, you and FBI Special Agent Tigo Harris became more than friends. How is that relationship going?
Kariss: Tigo and I are … not involved right now. Sigh. If I dwell on the subject, depression rears its ugly head. So let’s just say Tigo and I aren’t as compatible as we once thought. End of discussion. What else would you like to talk about?
- Where can we learn more about you?

I can not wait until I get this book. I look forward to catching up with Kariss in this new adventure. Amazon needs to send it SOON! I would love to win a copy because then I could give it to someone in my church book club. Everyone should read Diann Mills.
I think it is funny that you numbered all of the questions with a 1 except the last one & it is 8. Kariss may be proud that I noticed that. I am sad to hear about her & Tigo. Maybe there is hope for reconciliation (or a new interest in the new book?). I will find out as soon as my book comes. Diann-thanks for writing.
“Take a bath” in the middle ages. That cracked me up. Great character interview. DiAnn is such an excellent writer.
